In the fall of 2015, our congregation began with no college undergraduate students and zero teenagers as disciples. God has been moving in tremendous ways from then until now, and on Sunday, February 19, Jasper Jafferian was immersed as our third teen disciple. There are certainly many more to come.
Our Sunday service of President’s weekend began with singing and the usual announcements. However, this time of welcome and announcements was shared by our older teenagers who just recently returned from the New England winter retreat in New Hampshire.
Bill Brown led a moving time of communion and spoke from Philippians 2.
Then came the immersion. Parents David and Melody Jafferian were the first to share. Next, J.J. thanked God, his family, visitors from the Metro Region in Boston and all who had helped him through the years. Finally, Hakeen Jacobs asked Jasper two important questions. The second one brought a thunderous ovation as Jasper answered, “Jesus is Lord!”
The lesson for the day continued our “Chase the Lion” series regarding David’s mighty men mentioned in II Samuel 23. “Empty It Out” was pulled from verses 13-17 as David poured out water brought to him by three of the thirty. Themes from the story spelled out LOVE (Loyalty matters; Our plans don’t always work out; Value commitment and Empty it out).
The fellowship was especially alive this particular Sunday as guests to our service hailed from New York City, Boston, West Haven, CT, and beyond.
May God continue to convert old and young to Him. And may we always stand in awe of His mighty power which has begun a youth movement in our church from nothing but His own might.
