Over 30 years ago, I walked into a Bible Talk led by Wyndham Shaw in Charlotte, North Carolina . . . and my life has never been the same.
For the past two years, small group Bible Talks have been taking place on the campuses of Brown University and Rhode Island College. What began with zero undergraduate college students in our church has now grown to 13 by the grace of God and the power of His word. This includes disciples from four campuses now, with hopes of expanding that soon. Presently many more young men and women are studying the Bible and being called to be disciples of Jesus.
The primary tool where these college students make their first connection to our church is through Bible Talk, a 30 or 45-minute discussion on some topic of interest. In the past few weeks, our Rhode Island College small group has talked about subjects like insecurity, male/female relationships and how do we know who is and is not a Christian. Following each small group time, there is always lively fellowship as connections are made and deep conversations had.
Sometimes Anita provides refreshments for the RIC crew and that is always a highlight.
It has been exciting for me to see this same electric dynamic also translated into our marrieds’ ministry. Recently I have seen living rooms full of people in Fall River and North Attleboro. There is a longing in us all for the Word of God. Let’s share this good news on Sundays in our large group or throughout the week in our smaller gatherings from house to house and campus to campus.
