On Friday, March 16, the Ocean State Church of Christ hosted an international night. Disciples were asked to dress in clothing from around the world and many did. We had Cape Verde, Jamaica, Cambodia, Ireland and more represented. Johnson and Wales culinary student, Quan Moore, even owns socks with flags from around the world that came in handy (see picture).

The night began with international singing. Daniel Gifford, whose parents went on the Paris church planting in days gone by, led us in “Praises Heard Around the World” and “Siku Rin Wana.” Christian Figueroa (great name for a disciple!) and Bill Brown led us in prayers in Spanish and English. Jimmy Allen had a brief, devotional thought on really being a multi-cultural church and not just a multi-racial one. Then the competitive “Name that Flag” competition commenced, with the team captained by Brown
student, Sam Saarinen, winning the coveted bag of Tootsie Rolls.

But next, the night swung into high gear, as we all went downstairs at the Blackstone Valley Historical Society to a reception honoring Benson Olerunfemi and Debbie Eseh, who are engaged to be married on March 31. Food, fellowship and fun took over the night. Bill and Linda Brown were MC’s for the “Back to Back” game. A time of sharing focused on the great friendships we have with Benson and Debbie. The evening closed out as we all laid hands on them and prayed.

God has blessed us by living in an international city, Providence. He has moved a Nigerian man, Benson, to be among us. We have the opportunity to really see God draw ALL NATIONS to Himself. We get to be His partners in this mission! We praise and thank God for His international heart!
