One of the goals of our church is to be like Jesus in all ways. Certainly He loved the lost and trained other disciples to be more like His Father. However, Christ also had a huge heart for the suffering, downtrodden and poor.
In His spirit, Doug and Shayne Purdue oversaw one of our first projects to reach out to those in need over the Thanksgiving holiday season. Each of our family groups put together Thanksgiving baskets to provide for a disadvantaged family or group. In addition, the Zetina family was able to secure donated turkeys to include with each basket.
On Tuesday, November 25, some of those baskets were delivered in Woonsocket. Two complexes housing about 50 men in drug and alcohol treatment received several of the baskets. Another family with two small sons who are having hard times received another. On this particular run – Bill Brown, Paulo Martins and Andrew Zetina experienced the joy of giving in the eyes and hearts of the recipients.
May we daily keep our eyes open to encourage our brothers and sisters, seek and save the lost . . . and also to “remember the poor (Galatians 2:10).” This was and is certainly the heart of our Savior.
