On Wednesday, May 24, Walter Arecias was immersed. After a night of praying, he called Kevin Mahoney and said that he wanted to get right with God. A small group meeting was already planned for that night at the Martins’ home. So many disciples gathered to see Walter’s new start in a tub in a back yard on a fantastic, warm day.
Prior to the baptism, all of the kids (and Angel) bounced on the Martins’ trampoline. Many adults brought snacks and laid them out. The fellowship was vibrant. And then the sharing began.
Walter’s Baptism
Friends and family spoke of Walter’s changed heart through repentance, his many talents given to him by God and his love for his two children. Walter himself spoke about how grateful he was to be welcomed in to the family. He talked of how God had changed his heart, his life, his communication abilities with Shirley and more. Finally, Walter stated, “Jesus is Lord.” Then Kevin Mahoney, Jim Wick and Shirley lowered him into the waters of baptism and out again.
God, the angels and lots of people in Providence (okay, Lincoln that night) started rejoicing. It is our privilege and honor to see people make the most important decision of all. Let’s continue to pray for and encourage Walter, as well as reach out to more open people out there seeking our Savior.
