Black History Month Celebration and a Baptism

On Sunday, February 24, the Ocean State church had our first ever tribute service to Black History Month.  In a stirring program, the songs and sharing focused on educating us all about our shared history – in America and around the world.

Our worship team added in some wonderful, somewhat-new songs to us – “You are Good” and “I’m On My Way ToCanaan’s Land” – to mix in with classic favorites.

Vanessa Irving, Jasmine White & Linda Brown spoke powerfully about historic, African-American women who have impacted their lives for the better.  Greg Chery preached a lesson entitled “Enough is Enough,” and wove in the story of the country of Haiti gaining its freedom from slavery and paving the way for the U.S.  Of course, he made many parallels to the spiritual freedom God wants us to have in Christ.

At the conclusion of our morning, Melanie Jimenez was baptized into Christ.  Melanie is the daughter of Ivette and has been studying the Bible for several months.  She is added to God’s kingdom and a powerful teen ministry forming in our church.  Special thanks to Jiayin Saarinen, Braelan Martin, Anita Allen and her mom for guiding her through her journey to the waters of baptism.

May we all say “Enough is Enough” to sin and not view flesh and blood as our enemy, but Satan himself (Ephesians 6:12).
