A long-standing, Rhode Island tradition calls for a Breakfast during the first weekend of May each year. Since our church is an Ocean State congregation, we decided to jump into our own morning delight in the evening. On Friday, May 1, virtually all of the members of our church and several friends invaded the Martin home in Lincoln to laugh, talk and eat a lot of wonderful food.
The 7 PM event kicked off with fellowship, followed by a brief welcome and Tom Matias’ opening prayer. The smell of bacon and eggs, mixed with the view of French toast, syrup and more will long be remembered.
While the kids played outside well into the night, the adults scattered around the house and even went outside around a brightly burning bonfire.
Two new sisters who have moved our way – Evie and Korpo – came out to enjoy the festivities as well. A few of the most radical brothers even headed out to the late showing of “The Avengers” at the end of the night.
Many thanks to the hosts – the Martins. We also appreciate the state of Rhode Island for giving us the idea. But mostly, we are so grateful to God for giving us His food – both physical and spiritual – His people – the church – and Himself.
