On the week of March 13-18, a total of eight different disciples took all or part of their spring break time to come to Providence and share the gospel with others. Primarily, disciples from Southern Connecticut and UConn (Storrs) arrived on Monday to bond and blitz for a memorable week.
On Tuesday, March 14, a blizzard warning stopped the planned events for the first time in the history of campus swap in Rhode Island. But starting back up again on Wednesday, the crew reached out and roamed around the state despite low temperatures and high winds.
Frequent stops sharing were made at Rhode Island College, Brown University and Johnson and Wales. We had some fun too with a side romp to Newport and a Providence Place Mall afternoon (Dave and Busters and more).
One highlight of the week was our Friday midweek with the Ocean State church. After singing and our annual Rock, Paper, Scissors championship – the campus swap disciples preached the word for our congregation.
Short sermonettes focusing on one word of conviction inspired our members on topics like “Sacrifice,” “Friendship,” “Love,” “Courage” and “Renewal.” Refreshments and fellowship allowed each of us to catch the spirit of these young radicals for Jesus.
This is now our third campus swap adventure. In addition to the three members of our congregation initially met through this avenue (Hakeen, Deisy and Josh) – the faith, focus and fun of these young hearts giving up their vacation week to serve God has been a huge source of inspiration.
May it live on in and through them, as well as in our hearts.
