The Ocean State church has started 2020 with “A New Year’s Revolution” series. Sunday, January 12, was the day entitled, “Get in the Game.” As usual, singing started our morning. Asia’s solo in “I’m On My Way To Canaan’s Land” was one of the musical highlights. Paulo Martins moved our hearts regarding the meaning of forgiveness and reconciliation from II Corinthians 5. It is always powerful to think about Jesus and His sacrifice for us.
Then came the immersion. Habin Jun is a sophomore at Johnson and Wales University. He met Myles Bryan last year and was invited out to Bible Talk. Because of his busyness, he got distracted from God, the Bible and meeting up with followers of Christ. Erin Shin re-met Habin at the first of the fall and he was ready this time.
Habin has been committed to putting God first the past few months. He has streamlined his schedule and focused his heart on what is most important. Finally, he made the ultimate decision to die and be reborn in baptism (Romans 6:1-5).
Steve Schnell closed out the service preaching “Get in the Game.” From his humorous opening illustration to his two main points – 1.) The Other Team Wants To Beat You 2.) Take Your Stand – Steve zealously challenged us to be intense about getting away from Satan, the lion who is attacking.
Following service, the campus crew all headed to Chili’s to continue celebrating Habin’s new birth and share about him.
We praise God for the church’s first baptism of 2020 and look forward to His working in many more hearts this year and beyond.
