Our congregation is constantly looking for ways to help the poor and encourage the needy. As Thanksgiving and then Christmas arrives, several projects are underway to serve, give to and help others because God has loved us so much.
First, we have kicked off our coat drive. Once again, we are partnering with The North Face store at Providence Place Mall. Last year, with assistance from North Face, a middle school and our own donations – somewhere around 100 coats were given out at homeless shelters in Providence during the months of December and January.
We also recently delivered numerous Thanksgiving baskets to Frank Spaziano Elementary School on Laurel Hill Avenue in Providence. This is a dual language school with many students recently arriving from other countries, and having no grasp of English.
Finally, we are planning our annual, Christmas caroling day to a nursing home in the Providence area. Many older members of our society have no one consistently visiting them or sharing smiles.
