Rainy Polar Bear Breakfast Highlights Food and Friendship

One of the best parts of every year for the men of our church is the Polar Bear breakfast, the first Saturday of each January.  That’s the morning that we eat outside. Leo Mella began this tradition at his home on Elmdale Avenue in Providence when the church started, and this year may have seen the most fellas ever show up.

Although Leo said he wanted it colder, most of us were thrilled that January 4th was a somewhat warm, 45 degrees with some rain.  At about 10:30 am, prayers were said in both Spanish and English before the meal. The food was, once again, delicious and bountiful.

The conversational buzz lasted until well after noon.  Many men reconnected with old friends or made new ones. The mix of ages, races and backgrounds was dynamic.

We’re once again grateful for Leo, who uses his talents for God.  It is also a fantastic outreach event, as 10-15 men from outside our congregation showed up for the free food and fun.

May we always thrill to fellowship, friendship and connection.  It is one of God’s most powerful tools for good.
