The Baptism of Kamryn Whitfield

On a brisk Sunday morning, November 11, 2018, the Ocean State Church of Christ gathered for its regular worship service.  As usual, singing began the assembly time with guest song leader, Hartford’s Carlos Collado leading us in a couple of new selections.

Campus students directed us through most of the day’s speaking parts.  Hakeen Jacobs (RIC) and Tolu Sogade (Brown) welcomed us and shared announcements.  Sean Dye (Bryant) directed our hearts toward communion with our Father.  Finally, Brennan Sciascia (Brown) spoke about giving to God and played a piano number while we passed the trays.

Jimmy Allen’s sermon for the day continued our “But God” series and came from I Corinthians 1:18-2:5. The lesson’s focus was that God choose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise.

But the high point of the day by far was the immersion of Kamryn Whitfield, Johnson and Wales University culinary student.  Kamryn hails from Lansing, Michigan, and since her arrival to visit our congregation and Bible Talks, she has been a shining light of smiles, sincerity and sweetness.  She has quickly become “one of us” and is known for being committed 100% to God and His people.

It is always inspiring to see a “new birth.”  As the closing song “I’ve Been Redeemed” rang out on this autumn day, we all celebrated the redemption power of Christ in our lives past and present.
