On Sunday, May 17, five disciples from the Lincoln Gifford family attended the Ocean State church of Christ and led us in worshipping God. The father, Lincoln, an elder in the Hartford church, led an extended communion time of sharing which included some great thoughts on life – pray, prepare and serve. Irene, his wife, played the piano during the passing of the trays.
Ocean State member, Daniel Gifford, led songs – as is his usual task – and also spoke before we gave our contribution. His older sister, Sarah, also showed some power point slides and shared about her time serving in Cambodia. The younger Gifford daughter, Emma, played the violin as the baskets were passed. The entire family also played and led us in “Encourage My Soul” at the beginning of the service.
One of the fantastic parts of the day was the big-picture view of a family who has persevered for many years. God has been with them through it all. Though not perfect, Jesus has blessed their consistency and long-term focus. It gave us all great vision for what He can do in our lives and families if we will also hold on for the long haul.
