Friends in faraway places are a gift, but it’s nice when they’re close enough to come visit. This month we joined with the rest of the country in celebrating Black History Month, and on Sunday, our guest speakers Rich & Lisa Fischer came down to visit, fellowship, and deliver insights from God’s Word.
Rich & Lisa Fischer served in the full-time ministry for many years in the Boston Church, and as he introduced Rich, Steve Schnell dated them a bit by revealing that the Fischer’s coordinated the Pre-Teen Camp he attended in middle school! Rich & Lisa currently live up in Milton, Massachusetts, just south of Boston, and they lead a Family Group in the Southern Cities Region, itself a great friend to the Ocean State Church.. They have 3 children- Zach, Xavier, and Lexi.
Rich preached a powerful message out of Joshua chapter 10, and called everyone in this leap year, to take a LEAP in their faith. Lisa’s communion sharing painted a moving picture of the many ways God reached out to her throughout her search for Him.
We are grateful for the Fischers’ visit, as well as for all the ways Jesus helps us break down barriers between us. We pray that the city of Providence will overcome the prejudice and discrimination that separate fellow human beings. We love being a church of true cultural diversity, but we’re glad to unify under the banner of Christ!
