A Full Friday of Charity and Love

On Friday, October 14, the Ocean State Church was involved in a couple of intense and highly impactful events.

First of all – from 3 to 5 PM, several volunteers made their way over to Lincoln Middle School for the first ever “Hoops for HOPE” event. Around $400 was generated from a 3-on- 3 basketball tournament at this sight. Volunteers sold pizza slices and water or refereed games to aid in the exciting afternoon extravaganza. The kids loved the competition and said over and over, “Let’s do this again.”

After a short break, our congregation traveled over to the Cape Verdean Association for Community Development (CACD) on High Street in Pawtucket for another first – a Fall Festival. Leo & Ivy Mella oversaw a huge potluck meal plan with everything from BBQ pork sandwiches to corn on the cob. After the meal and fellowship, which included many guests, games were played downstairs with the autumn theme. Apple bobbing, pumpkin bowling, relay races and more filled the hall with laughter and competition to close out the night. Families were brought closer together and John 13:35 came alive in our day. It says, “They’ll know we are Christians by our love.”
