Campus Ministry Leads Service on “Looking Through Heaven’s Eyes”

Some say that our teenagers and college students are the future of the church. Actually they are the future . . . but also the present! Their presence was felt in a very special way as they were the only ones to lead in singing, prayers, and speeches on Sunday, December 11.

The highlight of the day was the Tufts University campus group of the Boston church traveling down to inspire us and be together for worship. Dominique (announcements), Nadia (communion poem), Sarah and Mimi (song performance of “Shackles”), Sam (communion speech) and Murvi Babalola (sermon) all powerfully shared from their hearts and lives the power of the gospel. Several Providence disciples joined them – Brennan (announcements), Asia (good news), Daniel and David (song leading), Jiayin (up front singer) and Hector (contribution speech).

There was a special buzz in the air from the electric atmosphere. The singing was more inspired (and we added a beat box drum!). The contemporary culture references were more pronounced. The swaying was a little more extravagant. It all combined to call us higher in our love for God and His Word.

After the service, many of the campus disciples headed over to the Allen’s apartment for pizza and fellowship. Jessica Boerma’s birthday was celebrated. Hector Morales’ steady dating news was bantered about. And a good time was had by all.

Our church must be multi-generational. We have to love God side by side – all races, all cultures and all ages. On this day, we were thrilled to highlight the voices, hearts and souls of the college-age crowd. May God grow His kingdom through them and use them powerfully during this stage in their lives.
