First Teenager Baptized in Ocean State Church

On Sunday, May 15, Alexandria Brown was immersed in the lake waters off the beach at Governor Notte Park in North Providence. This favorite family spot became the place of the first ever teenager baptized in the Ocean State Church of Christ. Alex is the oldest child and daughter of Bill and Linda Brown.

Prior to the baptism, the Sunday service highlighted recent graduates. Nick Conner, who got his masters in architecture from Roger Williams University shared for communion. Also, Admir Monteiro, who finished his master’s work in engineering from URI, spoke prior to our giving of contribution. Maylam Estrella, a long-time guest, was also applauded as she finished at Rhode Island College, and each of the three were given a card and gift.

Most of the long-term members who began our church a year and a half ago were married, in their forties or so, and had kids. It has been one of our goals to make sure we reach out to the young. Since January 1 of last year, God has grown our campus ministry from no undergrads to nine disciples in our present college group. Several other campus students are also studying the Bible.

Now, on top of that, God is moving among our teenagers. Alex had a high school friend visiting church service with her on this memorable day. We praise Jesus that He loves old and young, black and white, rich and poor, marrieds and singles.

But on this special day, the words of III John 4 ring especially true, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” What a joy it was to see the Brown family, many friends, and even the angels in heaven rejoice in this historic baptism!
