Latrice Burton Baptized on a Day Focused on Sheroes

On Sunday, February 28, two weeks after her husband’s immersion, Latrice Burton was baptized in a moving service of the Ocean State Church of Christ. Following inspirational singing and a prayer, a host of women (and one man) moved to the front of the auditorium to share about Latrice’s heart and journey to this special day.

Joanna Washington, Teresa Alleyne, Nijo Burton, Diana Wick and Anita Allen all played a role in sharing, encouraging and baptizing. Latrice herself shared about the importance of this God-ordained event. A host of 10-20 family and friends came up from the Boston area to attend and support. As we sang, “I Have Decided To Follow Jesus,” the angels in heaven (Luke 15:10) and a host of people on earth – including Latrice’s three children – celebrated.

This decision highlighted a day devoted to “sheroes,” women heroes from Hebrews 11 who lived by faith. The specific message of this day was “Rahab – Faith Welcoming.” The points were: “God is Bigger Than Your Drama,” “God is Weird” and “God Loves To Use Broken People.” Whether it was Rahab in days gone by or Latrice now, our Father has touched and is touching powerful females in our area to live His life and spread His word.

After the service, a huge contingency moved on to IHOP in Providence for the bulk of the afternoon. The fellowship was sweet and the food filling. Now it is time to fill Latrice’s home town (Fall River), Rhode Island and the world with the wonderful news of Jesus and His love. Though God is the ultimate source, by His power we can all be heroes and sheroes for Him.
